ORLANDO, FL and HOBOKEN, NJ — Academy Bus, the largest privately owned and operated ground transportation company in the United States, recently partnered with the Department of Defense (DoD) to supply its charter bus service for the 2022 Warrior Games. The games were recently held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. The games ran from August 19-28, and Academy Bus operated numerous motor coaches for the entire 12 days duration of the Warrior Games.
“The Department of Defense understood that transportation and logistics were an integral component to a successful event, and we were pleased they turned to Academy based on our history, experience and positive track record in the region,” said Francis Tedesco, President and CEO of Academy Bus. “Academy Bus is an ardent supporter of the United States armed forces, employing many veterans throughout our organization. We are also drawn to transportation projects that support veterans, our wounded warriors, and our men and women in uniform!"
The Warrior Games is an annual event that was first held in 2010. Organized by the Department of Defense and hosted by the US Army, the multi-day sporting event celebrates the resilience and dedication of the ill and injured active duty and veteran U.S. military service members. The games bring together elite athletes from both the U.S military and international allied militaries. Service members and veterans compete in a range of adaptive sports, including wheelchair basketball, cycling, indoor rowing, and wheelchair rugby, among others.
“In past years, transportation has proved to be a complicating factor in an otherwise seamless event. Academy Bus provided timely, consistent and dependable service that helped hold together a large event with many moving parts,” said Bill Masterson, the Transportation Consultant who managed the athlete, family & friends, and ADA vehicle movements for the Warrior Games. “We hope the entire Academy team takes a few moments to reflect on how much the athletes appreciated how smooth the transportation from place to place truly was. They told us more than once that they did not know when they needed to go from location to location next, but they knew there would be an Academy coach waiting to make their next move!”
Academy Bus has a long, successful track-record history of providing charter service. Whether it is airport transportation services, college athletic programs, or moving professional sports teams from an array of sports, Academy is the most experienced motor coach provider up and down the east coast. Meeting the needs of the public and charter clients, with exceptional customer service and high quality equipment, separates Academy in the ground transportation industry. Academy operations centers stretch from Boston to Miami, making almost any location in the eastern portion of the country accessible.
